TRADITIONAL
Hard work and diligence are the bedrock of our practice. We vigorously aim for the best results achievable, by all fair and honourable means. We believe that effective and reputable advocacy is compatible, and often enhanced, by respectecful and trustworthy behaviour. We embrace the Western bar's tradition of collegiality, unless it conflicts with a a client's interest. Modern
We recognize that each client and each case requires a personalized approach. We listen to our clients attentively, and thrive to understand why they find themselves under the jurisdiction of the court or a tribunal. We recognize that our clients are obliged to make life-changing decisions. We share the knowledge accumulated over our years of practise to empower our clients when making those critical decisions. As legal advocates, we abide by our role and recognize its limits. When legal woes are symptomatic of deeper and highly sensitive issues (e.g., trauma, addiction, separation, mental illness, unemployment, immigration problems, homelessness, etc) we are receptive to clients who wish to address those root causes. In those situations, we can devise collaborative solutions with other professionals. Our dealings with those whom we serve are always open, direct and transparent. Access to Justice
We believe in access to justice and that anyone accused of a crime should have equal footing in the courtroom. That is why some of out lawyers sometimes agree to represent accused persons who qualify financially for legal aid, even on serious and complex trials. In some cases, we have agreed to work on a fixed-fee basis, so that our clients can have a clear and definitive picture of the financial costs of their defence. Conversely, if you are able to afford the fees of two lawyers or more, we have experience in representing individuals as a legal team. In some cases, our articled students have provided some financial relief as well, since their legal fees are lower than that of our lawyers. Finally, some of our lawyers have agreed to act as amicus curiae ("friend of the court") which is a particular form of appointment by a judge to provide assistance to a judge and to an accused in a particular case. |
